Our expertise in understanding and monitoring the effects of social media are accurately reflected in our company name.
Most people recognize the word ‘byte’ as the unit that computers use to represent a character such as a letter or number. (For those techno geeks out there, you know that one byte equals a binary string of eight bits. Knowing that little tidbit at least highlights our understanding of technology.)
The ‘mano’ portion of our name is the acronym that identifies our primary areas of expertise: Marketing, Analytics, Networking, On-line.
However, there's a personal note about the meaning of the MANO acronym. First, the president and founder of our company, Kevin Dean, has years of experience in the field of technology and social media. While technology seems to be in his blood, he has a great love for deep sea diving. His dream: to dive with sharks. While making plans for a shark dive, it hit him that the Hawaiian word for shark is ‘mano.’ (Did we mention that Kevin’s mom lives in Hawaii?) And thus a name was born.
There’s a bit more to the story, however. Sharks notoriously get a bad rap. Most people view sharks as predators and man-eaters. Yet nothing could be further from the truth.
Mr. Shark is the victim of social media and the negative impact that it can have on one’s reputation. I guess you could say we’re happy to defend Mr. Shark’s reputation, but more importantly we’re interested in helping you defend yours. |
